Camera app that records 9:16 and 16:9 together
Dual-format camera apps record 9:16 and 16:9 together and save two files. On iPhone, ContentCam, OmniCam, TwoFace, DualShot Recorder and DualTake do it. Single-camera apps cut both from one frame. Two-lens apps use Apple's multi-camera capture. Pixel size depends on which frame the app starts from.

Two ways to get two files
| Method | How | Apps whose pages describe it |
|---|---|---|
| One camera, two crops | One sensor frame is cut into a tall file and a wide file | ContentCam (Single Lens), DualTake |
| Two cameras | Two lenses record at once, one framed tall and one wide | OmniCam, TwoFace, ContentCam (Dual Lens) |
Pixel math
A 9:16 file cut from a 16:9 4K frame (3840x2160) is only 1215x2160, narrower than a full 1080p portrait file. A 4:3 sensor frame, such as 4032x3024, gives a 1701x3024 portrait cut and a 4032x2268 wide cut. These are our own calculations for an example frame, not any app's measured output. ContentCam says it starts from the full 4:3 frame. DualTake's listing does not say which frame it uses, so check the size of your own files in Photos.
What to check in any app
- Pixel size of each file in Photos.
- Whether both files keep the same frame rate.
- Whether the free tier adds a watermark.
- Whether your iPhone supports two-lens capture, which needs a model with multi-camera support.
Where DualTake fits
DualTake uses one camera, cuts the 16:9 file so it follows the face, and lets you pan it by hand. See how the horizontal crop works. It needs iOS 18, and free exports are watermarked.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a camera app that records 9:16 and 16:9 at once?
Yes. ContentCam, OmniCam, TwoFace, DualShot Recorder and DualTake all list it on iPhone.
Does the iPhone Camera app do this?
No. The built-in Camera app records one orientation per take.
Does the 16:9 file lose resolution?
It can, if the app starts from a small frame. Check the file size in Photos.
Do I need an iPhone with two lenses?
Only for the two-lens apps. Apple's multi-camera capture requires a supported model.
Are both files saved separately?
Yes. Each app on this page saves two files to Photos.
Is there an Android option?
ContentCam and TwinTake list Android. See the [Android notes](/app-to-film-vertical-and-horizontal-video-at-once).
